Chris Kluwe released by Oakland Raiders after losing punting battle
We laughed at the Oakland Raiders for keeping two punters and four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster Saturday, but it looks like they solved that issue.
Veteran punter Chris Kluwe tweeted his goodbyes and thank-yous on Twitter Sunday after losing the punting job to newbie Marquette King.
“Thanks to everyone at the Raiders for the opportunity this preseason. It was a blast. Marquette King’s got a bright future with you guys! … Feel like we both had a pretty strong preseason. No regrets,” Kluwe wrote in separate tweets.
The Raiders also reportedly waived quarterback Tyler Wilson, whom they drafted in the fourth round. They paid Wilson nearly a $500,000 signing bonus and likely won’t see any returns on that money. Wilson was fourth on the QB depth chart behind Matt Flynn, Terrelle Pryor, and undrafted rookie Matt McGloin.
