Bucs CB CJ Wilson reportedly suffers ‘severe’ hand injury in fireworks accident
Memo to all NFL players — stop playing with fireworks.
Believe it or not, Jason Pierre-Paul is not the only NFL player who suffered an injury during a fireworks mishap over the 4th of July weekend. On Wednesday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers confirmed that cornerback C.J. Wilson did the same thing.
“It is our understanding that the injury occurred to one of his hands and our primary concern at this moment is for his long-term health,” the team said in a statement, per Roy Cummings of The Tampa Tribune. “We have been in contact with C.J. and are continuing to monitor the situation.”
As with Pierre-Paul’s situation, early reports indicate that the injury could be serious. A Bucs team source told ESPN’s Ed Werder that the injury is “significant.”
Wilson, 25, is entering his third NFL season. He appeared in two games for the Buccaneers last season. There is a possibility that he will either be placed on the non-football injury list to start the season or released by the team. His deal includes a nonguaranteed base salary of $585,000 for the 2015 season.
We all know fireworks are dangerous, but having two NFL players wind up in the hospital in the same offseason as a result of fireworks mishaps is unheard of.
