Cody Kessler was benched in favor of Josh McCown during the third quarter of the Browns’ game against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night.
At the time of his benching, Kessler was 11 of 18 for 91 yards and a touchdown pass. However, the Browns punted on five of his six possessions. They went 3-and-out in their first possession of the second half under Kessler.
Though the Browns changed to McCown, the veteran fared poorer than Kessler initially. McCown’s first possession ended in an interception on a third down play.
The Akron Beacon Journal’s Nate Ulrich says the quarterback change was not due to injury:
So #Browns QB Cody Kessler has been benched. He's not injured.

Kessler and McCown are two of five QBs to have thrown passes for the Browns this season. Kessler leads the team in pass attempts, but McCown has thrown for more yards and touchdowns per game.
