Report: Colin Kaepernick benched in favor of Blaine Gabbert
The San Francisco 49ers have decided to make a change at quarterback this week.
Following a 27-6 loss to the St. Louis Rams on Sunday, 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula did not back Colin Kaepernick as the team’s quarterback the way he had done in previous weeks. That’s because the team has decided to make a change, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.
The #49ers are benching QB Colin Kaepernick, I'm told. He has been informed. Blaine Gabbert is the starter.

Though Tomsula backed Kaepernick the past two months, the change isn’t all that surprising.
The Niners are 2-6 and Kaepernick has just not been good enough most of the season. On five occasions this season, he has failed to throw a touchdown and for more than 165 yards. You’re just not going to win games in the NFL like that.
The team will now turn to backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert, who has not taken a snap this season. After three unsuccessful seasons in Jacksonville, Gabbert was picked up by the 49ers and went 3-of-7 in the lone game he played last year. A former No. 10 overall draft pick, Gabbert has thrown for 23 touchdowns and 24 interceptions in his career.
