Report: Colin Kaepernick may dedicate life to social activism if cut by 49ers

Colin Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick could be released by the San Francisco 49ers before Week 1 of the regular season. If that happens, the quarterback may be prepared to give up his NFL career.

Several NFL team executives told Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman that they believe it is only a matter of time before the Niners release Kaepernick due to “external pressure.” The belief is that the team will wait a short while to allow the fallout from Kaepernick’s national anthem protest to settle before cutting him.

Perhaps more interesting, sources close to Kaepernick told Freeman Kaepernick “fully expected” the 49ers to release him after the public became aware he was refusing to stand for the national anthem. And if Kaepernick ends up getting blacklisted by the rest of the league, he is reportedly prepared to dedicate his life to social activism.

Kaepernick obviously feels very strongly about fighting for social equality. He has already said he will continue to sit during the national anthem until he sees change, and who knows when that could come. When you consider the way some league executives ripped him to shreds, you have to wonder if Kaepernick’s NFL career is close to reaching its end.
