TMZ was the first to report on Thursday that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is being investigated for sexual assault over an alleged incident that took place in Miami. When the actual police report was later shared by The Sacramento Bee, nothing was mentioned about sexual assault. Instead, police said they were investigating a “suspicious incident.”
TMZ later clarified their report by acknowledging that police used the term “suspicious incident” but noted that it is clear an alleged sex crime is being investigated because the case was referred to the Special Victim’s Office. On Friday morning, Kaepernick took to Twitter to blast TMZ.
(1/3) The charges made in the TMZ story and other stories I’ve seen are completely wrong. They make things up about me that never happened.

(2/3) I take great pride in who I am and what I do, but I guess sometimes you have to deal with someone who makes things up.

(3/3) I want to thank all of the people who have shared their encouraging sentiments. I assure you that your faith is not misplaced.

Kaepernick and two other NFL players, Quinton Patton and Ricardo Lockette, reportedly hung out at Lockette’s apartment with a woman who claims she had a previous sexual relationship with Kaepernick. She claimed she had a few drinks and felt lightheaded, so she went to a bedroom with Kaepernick. While she said she did not have sex with Kaepernick, the woman woke up in a hospital bed the next morning and claimed she did not remember how she got there.
Kaepernick’s agent Scott Smith also addressed the allegations on Friday.
“We stand by Colin 100% and are fully confident that the truth will be evident once the facts come to light regarding this matter,” Smith said, via Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports. “Thank you for supporting Colin.”
