Commanders reportedly checked in on notable retired QB

Ron Rivera on the sideline

The Washington Commanders’ search for a new quarterback may have been the most comprehensive of any team’s. We know this because it certainly sounds like they were looking at quarterbacks few other teams would have even thought to look at.

The Commanders searched far and wide for quarterback options, and even checked in on Andrew Luck, according to John Keim of ESPN. The Commanders checked in on Luck’s interest in playing again, but those efforts went nowhere and were quickly abandoned.

You can’t blame Washington for trying, though to call that a longshot might be an understatement. Luck retired prior to the 2019 season and has mostly dropped off the map since then, only making occasional public appearances. There have almost never been any rumors linking him to a return, and the quarterback has not shown any indication that he’s changed his mind.

Even if Luck did want to come back, it would probably be with the Indianapolis Colts, not the Commanders. They’ve certainly tried before and come up empty.
