The Dallas Cowboys’ rivalry with the Philadelphia Eagles is continuing off the field as well as on it.

The Cowboys blocked the Eagles from speaking to offensive coordinator Klayton Adams about the same job with Philadelphia, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. Dallas had permission to block the interview request, as Adams would be interviewing for the same job in Philadelphia and not a promotion.

Dallas’ decision does appear to have come from a genuine desire to keep Adams. It is entirely plausible, if not likely, that the Cowboys would have done the same no matter which team had requested to interview him. It is safe to say, however, that the organization probably enjoyed it a little more getting to reject Philadelphia.

Adams just finished his first season as the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator. He replaced Brian Schottenheimer after Schottenheimer was promoted to head coach, and their offense averaged 27.7 points per game this season.

The Eagles are looking everywhere for a new offensive coordinator to replace Kevin Patullo. They have so far failed to land any of their top targets, though they clearly have a long list of interviews to go through. Adams will have to be crossed off that list, as he is saying put.
