Cowboys reportedly have private workout with Dak Prescott

It seems unlikely that the Dallas Cowboys will be using the fourth pick on a quarterback. The middle rounds of the NFL Draft, however, could be a different story.

The Cowboys reportedly have a private workout with Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott on Monday, according to Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News.

The Cowboys spent time with Prescott at the Senior Bowl and again at the NFL Combine, so they’re clearly taking a long look at him. Offensive coordinator Scott Linehan and quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson have spent time watching him work out and broke down film with him.

“Coach Wilson just [talked] about what they expect me to do if I come in there, if it’s to be in the backup role behind Tony Romo, how do I plan on approaching it and then just talking ball,” Prescott said of his time with the Cowboys at the NFL Combine. “They’ve been productive meetings. He told me their picks and told me that they’re thinking about getting a quarterback with one of those picks. He was saying that if I work hard, things maybe could work out.”

Prescott could be a good long-term replacement for Romo, as he’s projected as a third or fourth round pick. His draft stock could be impacted by his DUI arrest last Saturday.
