Cowboys could try to trade in front of NFC East rival at NFL Draft

Jerry Jones might be planning something big for the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft.

NFL reporter Jordan Schultz said Tuesday that the Cowboys are a “team to watch” regarding a potential trade up. The Cowboys have the 12th and 20th picks, and are thought to be coveting a player the New York Giants would possibly want at No. 5.

There’s a belief among teams at the top of the draft that the #Cowboys, who have picks at #12 and #20, are a team to watch in trade-up scenarios, according to multiple league sources.

It is not known for sure which player Jones and the Cowboys might be coveting. Josh Norris of The Underdog suggested linebackers Arvell Reese and Sonny Styles, both out of Ohio State, could fit the bill.

Presumably, the Cowboys are interested in getting into the top five for football reasons, not just to get one over on the Giants. Then again, it might be an added bonus, as there is no love lost between the two teams.

There is little question the Cowboys will look for defense in the first round of the draft, whether they move up or not. The chance to get an elite defensive prospect, however, might be too much for Jones to resist.
