Cris Collinsworth makes interesting revelation about Davante Adams

Cris Collinsworth made an interesting revelation Thursday about Davante Adams.

Adams was traded in March by the Green Bay Packers to the Las Vegas Raiders for a first and second-round pick in the 2022 draft. The move was surprising considering Adams seemed to be downgrading teams and quarterbacks, going from Derek Carr to Aaron Rodgers.

During Thursday’s Hall of Fame Game between the Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars, Collinsworth shared some interesting information about Adams’ decision to request a trade.

Collinsworth said he spoke with Adams ahead of the game and asked the receiver why he wanted to go to the Raiders.

“He was pretty open,” Collinsworth said of Adams. “He said one of the factors — not the only factor — but one of the factors was he didn’t know how much longer Aaron Rodgers was going to play. He knew Derek Carr was going to be here for the length of the contract he had, and he just wasn’t sure. And so he sort of took the sure thing.

“Obviously the money a huge factor, and getting close to the West Coast a factor, but definitely a factor was the uncertainty around Aaron Rodgers.”

Indeed, Adams said in June that he was concerned about how much longer Rodgers would play. Collinsworth’s information reinforces just how important of a factor that was in Adams leaving.

Adams’ concerns about Rodgers’ future were not without reason.

Rodgers toyed with the idea of retirement for two offseason in a row. Though he certainly is entitled to take his time making decisions about his playing future, the 38-year-old should recognize that his indecision can also have a negative impact on the Packers’ ability to build a team. In this case, Rodgers’ ambivalence may have cost him his best receiver.
