Dan Quinn could become next head coach of Jets

Dan Quinn

The pieces may be falling in place for Dan Quinn to become the next head coach of the New York Jets.

The New York Daily News says Texans director of college scouting Mike Maccagnan is likely to become the next Jets’ general manager. Maccagnan has strong ties to former Texans GM Charley Casserly, who hired the scout while in Houston. Casserly is serving as a consultant for the Jets along with Ron Wolf.

After Maccagnan is hired, the Daily News believes Quinn would be the favorite to become the next head coach. Quinn interviewed with five teams for their head coaching vacancies and reportedly has the Jets at the top of his list. The Jets also have strong interest in him. Progress on hiring the Seattle defensive coordinator could be delayed depending on how the Seahawks do in the playoffs.

Apart from Quinn, the Daily News says Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles and Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak are on the Jets’ list. Former Bills head coach Doug Marrone is unlikely to be hired by the team.

In addition to hiring Maccagnan, whose strength is scouting, the Jets could bring in someone like former Bucs GM Mark Dominik, whose strength is salary cap and contract management.

On Thursday, FOX’s Alex Marvez said Quinn was already reaching out to potential assistants about becoming the Jets coach.
