Daniel Jones’ comeback train appears ready to leave the station for Week 1.
The Indianapolis Colts quarterback, who suffered a season-ending torn Achilles in December, appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Monday to talk about his recovery. When asked about his status just two days before the start of training camp, Jones was all smiles as he told the former Colts punter that he was fully cleared to participate from Day 1.
“I’m feeling good,” Jones told McAfee, via ESPN. “Plan is to be back in 11-on-11, full team drills Wednesday when we start up practice. Be out there with the guys, excited to be back.”
“I’m in a really good spot,” he continued. “I can do everything. There’s nothing that I can’t do. There’s still that last little bit that you’re working to get back, but I feel good in the next month or so as I get into team drills, 11-on-11 doing everything again, coming back and feeling 100%.”
Jones had been making huge strides in his recovery two months ago, when the Colts star progressed to 7-on-7 drills during practice. He’s carried that momentum right into the start of Indianapolis’ training camp, which runs from July 29 to August 20.
The 29-year-old was in the midst of a career year in Indy before his Achilles injury. In 13 games last season, Jones threw for 3,101 yards with 19 touchdowns and rushed for 5 more.
The Colts were confident enough in Jones’ recovery that the team still signed him to a hefty new contract in March.
