Darren Sproles: I felt ‘disrespected’ by Saints
Darren Sproles has not gotten over the way the New Orleans Saints parted ways with him. While he now admits that he is happy with the Philadelphia Eagles, Sproles was quick to bash his former team when asked for his thoughts on the Saints’ 1-3 start.
“I felt disrespected there,” Sproles said Thursday, according to NJ.com’s Mark Eckel. “Listen, I understand this is business and all of that, but (when they talked about trading him) they put it up on Twitter. That’s how I found out. There was a screen shot and a friend of mine texted it to me. I felt they did me wrong.”
When rumblings began back in March that the Saints were looking to dump Sproles, he said he would rather be released than traded because he wanted to be able to control where he ended up. Given the way Chip Kelly has used the veteran running back in his offense this season, you could argue that Sean Payton did Sproles a favor by sending him to the Eagles.
Still, Sproles is angry the team wasn’t open with him and that he had to use Twitter to find out what the future held.
“First, Sean told me they were going to cut me,” he said. “Then I find out on Twitter they’re trading me. That’s just not right. So I really haven’t been in contact with anyone there since I left. I really haven’t paid attention to what they’re doing. I’m more focused on what’s happening here.”
The Saints are off to a shockingly bad start and their offense has looked pedestrian. The Eagles, on the other hand, are 3-1. Payton probably wishes he could have Sproles back to add another element to his playbook. You know what they say about hindsight.
