Aaron Rodgers’ longtime teammate Davante Adams offered some intriguing insight into the quarterback’s extended free agency.
Adams spoke with Mike Silver of The Athletic for a recent interview, and the two discussed Rodgers’ ongoing free agency. In a subsequent appearance on the “Scoop City” podcast, Silver said Adams thinks Rodgers is looking to be wooed by a team in free agency, which has not really happened yet.
“The second thing Davante told me was, ‘I think Aaron wants someone to roll out the red carpet for him,'” Silver said. “This may be lost in the translation, but (Rodgers) just wants to feel like, ‘This is a real place that is pulling together, there’s a chance to have it go great here, and we think you’re the guy to take us, and we want that.'”

He believes Rodgers can still play. And…

Obviously, this is simply one player’s opinion, though Adams knows Rodgers better than most. The two played together for eight seasons in Green Bay, then reunited down the stretch with the New York Jets in 2024. Adams was cut by the Jets this offseason and has since landed with the Los Angeles Rams.
Rodgers has not really received that red carpet treatment thus far. He did visit the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the team is not really going out of its way to try to woo the veteran quarterback. The Steelers think Rodgers will sign with them eventually, but appear to be at peace with the possibility that he doesn’t.
Rodgers had hoped to sign with the Minnesota Vikings, but they are not interested in that sort of move. That has left the quarterback with the choice of the Steelers or retirement unless something significantly changes.
Last week, Rodgers offered his own explanation for waiting to make a decision on his future. It is not clear how long the wait will continue, but if the veteran is waiting for a big recruitment from a team, it does not seem to be coming.
