David Shaw may be getting a shot at redemption as a head coach.
Jane Slater of NFL Network reported on Monday that the New Orleans Saints plan to interview Shaw for their head coaching vacancy. Shaw, who served as head coach at Stanford University from 2011-22, currently works as a senior personnel executive for the Denver Broncos.
Granted, Saints writer Nick Underhill refuted that info and subsequently reported that New Orleans does not actually have plans to interview Shaw. But Underhill does also note that the Saints’ stance is “at this time.”

The 52-year-old Shaw would make sense here as a potential candidate for New Orleans. His father Willie used to serve as the defensive backs coach for the Saints. Shaw also now currently works in Denver with head coach Sean Payton, the longtime ex-New Orleans coach who led the Saints to seven division titles and a Super Bowl victory in the 2009 season.
At Stanford, Shaw was 96-54 (.640) overall with five bowl victories but resigned in 2022 after an ugly 3-9 season. He has since interviewed for other NFL head coaching jobs and may now be getting a look from the Saints, who fired Dennis Allen in November (with Darren Rizzi closing out the season as their interim head coach).
