The Las Vegas Raiders may go for a somewhat surprising option in their head coach search.
Denver Broncos pass game coordinator Davis Webb is a “name to watch” for the Raiders opening, according to Albert Breer of The MMQB. Breer notes that Webb has a relationship “in passing” with Tom Brady, and would likely bring in an offensive coordinator that Brady knows well, be it Kliff Kingsbury or Brian Daboll.
Webb would certainly be a gamble. He is only 30 years old and has just three years of coaching experience. He is the pass game coordinator for Denver, but has never been an offensive coordinator, much less a head coach.
On the other hand, Webb has drawn rave reviews from Denver players, and is clearly valued by Broncos coach Sean Payton. Brady may also see real potential in Webb despite that lack of coaching experience.
The Raiders are certainly eyeing a coach who could work with a young quarterback, as the team holds the No. 1 overall pick and might wind up with someone like Fernando Mendoza. From that perspective, Webb might be a sensible choice. It would certainly represent a complete 180 from 74-year-old Pete Carroll, who was fired at the end of the season.
