As expected, Pete Carroll is out in Las Vegas after just one season.

The Raiders announced Monday that Carroll has been fired as head coach. In a statement, owner Mark Davis affirmed that general manager John Spytek will be in charge of football operations and lead the search for a new head coach “in close collaboration with Tom Brady.”

This is no surprise, as it had been widely reported that Carroll would be on his way out after one year. The year was essentially a disaster on all fronts. Quarterback Geno Smith was awful after Carroll hand-picked him as a trade target, and a dysfunctional offense led to offensive coordinator Chip Kelly’s firing before the season even ended. Carroll, as it turned out, was not far behind him.

Things somehow got worse, as the season ended with the organization having seemingly alienated star pass rusher Maxx Crosby.

The Raiders went just 3-14. The good news is that landed them the No. 1 overall draft pick, but that was obviously not their plan for 2025.

One has to wonder if this is the end of Carroll’s distinguished coaching career. He will be fondly remembered for his tremendous run with the Seattle Seahawks, but the 74-year-old looked downright out of his depth at times during his lone season with the Raiders.

With Brady playing a big role in the coaching search, a former New England Patriots assistant might be one name to watch as the Raiders conduct their search.
