Report: Defenses have figured out Jalen Hurts’ current weakness

Opposing defenses reportedly have figured out a current weakness for Jalen Hurts, one that has impacted his relationship with A.J. Brown.

Brown has seemingly been expressing frustration with some messages posted on social media. The 28-year-old Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver has 29 catches for 395 yards and 3 touchdowns in 7 games this season. His average of 56.4 yards per game is the lowest of his career.

In an article published for The Athletic on Saturday, Dianna Russini discussed what’s going on with Brown and Hurts. She says that those who have studied the film can understand why Brown is frustrated. An opposing defensive coach told Russini that Hurts struggles against zone defenses, and that Brown becomes “MIA” (missing in action) when teams play zone against Hurts. Hurts reportedly is sometimes unsure of the coverage looks and will either go deep or check things down. So that would explain why Brown might not get the ball as much as he would like.

Brown began his career with the Tennessee Titans in 2019 but had been traded away after three seasons due to a financial dispute. He’s now been with the Eagles for four seasons and has won a Super Bowl with them. Is he frustrated enough with them to push for a trade? We’re probably not there yet, though he doesn’t seem happy. And even opposing coaches seem to understand why.

Brown is out for the Eagles’ Week 8 game against the Giants. Philly is 5-2 and has lost two of its last three games.

Though Hurts has faced many questions and doubters throughout his career, the Eagles have had tremendous success since making him their starter. Weakness or not, the guy can still play at a high level.
