Deion Sanders is by far the most high-profile candidate who has been linked to the Dallas Cowboys head coach job, and a new report claims he is not merely using the situation as leverage.
Longtime Cowboys reporter Ed Werder said Tuesday that he has been told Sanders would “almost certainly” accept an offer to become the next head coach in Dallas. Werder also said Sanders is being encouraged by those around him to pursue the job and that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is “enamored with the idea” of hiring Sanders.
As of Thursday, there had been no indication that Sanders was planning to sit down for a formal interview with the Cowboys.

Regarding Deion Sanders: I’m being told that he would almost certainly accept if Jerry Jones offers to make him the next #Cowboys head coach, that those around him are encouraging him to pursue it and that Jones is enamored with the idea.

Sanders confirmed earlier this week that he had a conversation with Jones. The Hall of Fame defensive back called the idea of coaching his former team “intriguing.” Though Sanders reiterated how much he loves coaching at Colorado, he did not explicitly deny that he has interest in the Cowboys job.
There has been talk that Sanders is using the NFL coaching buzz as leverage to get a new contract from Colorado. Sanders has also been linked to one other team that seems unlikely to land him.
Sanders has said in the past that he does not want to coach in the NFL, but perhaps Dallas is the exception. He remains a beloved figure in Dallas who won a Super Bowl with the Cowboys in the 1990s. Sanders also loves the spotlight, and there are few places where it shines brighter than in Dallas.
