One of the NFL’s most accomplished pass rushers intends to make the 2026 season his last.
DeMarcus Lawrence plans to retire after his 13th NFL season, he told Jori Epstein of Yahoo Sports. Lawrence considered retiring this offseason in order to return to Dallas with his family, but ultimately chose to play one more season.
“It was a tough process,” DeMarcus said. “But through the grace of God, I’m able to play another year and soak it all up one more good time before I hang it up.”

Lawrence will be best remembered for his time with the Dallas Cowboys, where he spent his first 11 NFL seasons. He developed into a high-end pass rusher there and collected 61.5 sacks in 11 years, and was selected to four Pro Bowls.
The 34-year-old signed with the Seahawks last season, rubbing some of his former teammates the wrong way in doing so. He did achieve his stated goal of winning a Super Bowl in Seattle, collecting six sacks and a fifth Pro Bowl nod along the way.
Lawrence’s best season came in 2017, when he racked up 14.5 sacks and received second-team All-Pro honors.
