Derrick Henry signs record-setting contract extension with Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens love what they have seen from Derrick Henry, and have made a substantial commitment to him despite his age and workload.

The Ravens signed Henry to a two-year, $30 million contract extension with $25 million in guaranteed money, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The contract is the largest ever handed to an NFL running back over the age of 30.

Henry turned 31 in January, but has shown few signs of slowing down. He defied the aging curve in 2024 by racking up 1,921 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns. He was not losing any steam even at the end of a long season, either.

Henry may simply be the rare running back capable of producing well into his 30s. That is what the Ravens are betting on. He originally signed a two-year, $16 million deal with Baltimore, though it did contain significant incentives. Still, this new agreement qualifies as a substantial raise. Based on the season he had, he earned it.

Ultimately, Henry’s exploits were not enough to help the Ravens to a Super Bowl, as they lost to Buffalo in the AFC Divisional round. Getting further will be the goal this year.
