DeSean Jackson releases statement about wearing police tape cleats
Washington Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson made a statement with his cleats during warmups on Sunday.
The cleats, which had a caution tape design, were created to call attention to the issue of African Americans being killed by police officers. Jackson said previously that he has had enough of “senseless killings” and “police brutality,” and he explained his decision further with a statement on Sunday.

Jackson said he is not trying to protest law enforcement, but he is hoping to a start a “movement” in the future. It’s unclear exactly what he envisions for said movement.
Jackson would be fined by the NFL if he wore the cleats during the game, as they do not feature Redskins team colors. Last week, another star wide receiver was forced to change out of these cleats at halftime because they violate the league’s uniform policy.
