DeShone Kizer complains Tom Brady-Cam Newton quote out of context

DeShone Kizer

DeShone Kizer feels that a quote from him that is going viral was taken out of context.

Kizer spoke with USA Today’s Tom Pelissero and talked up his preparation. He feels he has the ability to be the best quarterback ever, and talked about how he might be able to combine Tom Brady’s mind with Cam Newton’s body.

Here’s the quote:

“No one else can do what I can do. And I’ve truly figured out in this (draft) process, if I can maximize all my potential in every aspect of the game – this is bold – I do have the ability to be the greatest quarterback to ever play. Imagine taking (Tom) Brady’s intellect and Brady’s preparation and putting it on a guy with Cam Newton’s body. Why can’t I be the greatest? The only thing stopping me from it is me. That’s what’s driving me now.”

That’s the quote from Kizer that talks about taking Brady’s intellect and preparation and combining it with Newton’s body.

Pro Football Talk saw the quote and wrote a story about it, using the headline “DeShone Kizer: I have Tom Brady’s brain in Cam Newton’s body.”

Kizer wasn’t a fan of that headline:

Maybe that’s not exactly what Kizer said, but Pro Football Talk’s headline isn’t a stretch of an interpretation of what Kizer was saying. Kizer was saying he has the ability to become the greatest QB ever because he combines Brady’s intellect with Newton’s body. What other context is missing?

The opinions on the former Notre Dame QB vary, though most draft analysts rank him as one of the top five quarterbacks in the draft.
