Details emerge about Jalen Hurts injury after Nick Sirianni’s slip-up
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni accidentally revealed on Friday that Jalen Hurts has been dealing with an injury, though the ailment does not sound serious.
Hurts did not practice on Wednesday, but the Eagles listed the star quarterback with a “rest” designation. When asked on Friday about the scheduled maintenance day, Sirianni said Hurts has been “dealing with the ankle” and that the team wanted to be cautious.
That was news to the media, as Hurts did not have an injury designation this week. Sirianni then had to backtrack and claimed he thought the question was about a different player. You can see the whole awkward exchange here.
According to ESPN’s Tim McManus, Hurts has been managing a minor ankle injury for a few weeks. One source told McManus that Hurts has “lower leg soreness” and that Wednesday’s day off was strictly for load management since the Eagles are playing two games in five days between Week 10 and Week 11.
Hurts returned to a full practice on Thursday, so the issue is not serious. However, NFL rules state that teams can be disciplined for failing to disclose injuries. By mentioning the ankle injury, Sirianni probably paved the way for the Eagles to be fined.
Hurts has been on a tear during Philadelphia’s current four-game win streak. He has 12 touchdowns during that span and has not thrown an interception. The Eagles will face the NFC East rival Cowboys in Dallas on Sunday.
