Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni had an awkward interaction with a reporter on Friday that may trigger an NFL investigation.

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts sat out practice on Wednesday for what the team claimed was a scheduled rest day. During Sirianni’s press conference on Friday, a reporter noted how it is unusual for Hurts to take time off and asked Sirianni for an explanation.

“Yeah, you know, he was dealing with a … it was on the injury report. Dealing with the ankle and just making sure we’re precautious with everything,” Sirianni said.

Several reporters immediately chimed in to inform Sirianni that Hurts was not listed with an ankle issue or any other injury. Sirianni looked confused and then tried to recover. He claimed he thought the initial question was about another player. You can see the entire exchange:

Hurts returned to practice in full on Thursday, so he is obviously fine. But if he missed Wednesday’s session because of some sort of ailment, that would mean the Eagles failed to disclose an injury, which would subject them to NFL discipline.

It seemed very obvious that Sirianni slipped up. The question is whether the NFL will be able to prove it.

Hurts has been on a tear during the Eagles’ current four-game win streak. He has 12 touchdowns during that span and has not thrown an interception. The Eagles will face the NFC East rival Cowboys in Dallas on Sunday.
