Dez Bryant suggests his former Cowboys teammate as next coach
Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant has a rather unorthodox suggestion for who should be the team’s next head coach.
Bryant wrote on X that he had heard a “rumor” that former Cowboys tight end Jason Witten might be of interest if the team makes a coaching change at the end of the 2024 season. The former wide receiver was enthusiastic about the possibility.
I saw a rumor about Jason Witten for the Dallas Cowboys coaching job! I love it! 👀

It is not clear where Bryant heard this so-called rumor. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones did say in an interview last week that Witten has what it takes to be a successful NFL head coach, and even compared the former tight end to Lions coach Dan Campbell. Jones did not seem to be suggesting that Witten might be in the mix as a Cowboys coaching candidate in the immediate future.
After an ill-fated stint as an ESPN commentator, Witten has been the head coach at Liberty Christian School in the Dallas suburbs. Witten has them at 10-1 this year and has found success in the role. If the Cowboys make a change, they probably aren’t going to be turning to someone with no coaching experience beyond the high school level, no matter how badly Bryant might want them to.
