Dirk Koetter admits that he is ‘very concerned’ about Jameis Winston
Jameis Winston’s play at quarterback was poor again on Sunday, and his head coach is worried.
Dirk Koetter gave a rather blunt assessment of Winston’s performance after the second-year quarterback was intercepted for the seventh and eighth time of the young season.
“Very. I’m very concerned,” Koetter said of his quarterback after the 27-7 loss to Denver, via Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. “He’s not regressing, but we’ve got to take care of the football. I mean, we’ve got to take care of the football. We can’t turn it over three times in a half. We just can’t do that.”
Koetter said one of the important things Winston needs to realize is that he has limitations.
“Not every play is going to be a big play,” Koetter said. “We went through this very similar thing the first four games last season. And hopefully we’ll learn the same lesson we learned last year and get on a little roll here.”
Winston improved his physique during the offseason, but it seems as though decisionmaking is the next step in his evolution.
