The Miami Dolphins really want everyone to know that they are absolutely not tanking in 2019.
Dolphins general manager Chris Grier asserted this multiple times when speaking to the media on Monday, and he cited the team’s decision to sign Ryan Fitzpatrick as its starting quarterback as evidence that the team was not punting on the season.

A previous report about tanking seems to have gotten under Miami’s skin. Fitzpatrick isn’t an awful quarterback, but he’s not really the one you’re trying to sign if you’re intent on contending, either. He has a losing record in his career as a starter and went 2-5 in his starts for Tampa Bay last year. The Dolphins look like they’re doing just enough to field a team that can compete, but won’t necessarily win.
