Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie announces retirement in midseason
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has appeared in all seven games for the Oakland Raiders this season, but he he will not be playing in any more.
On Tuesday, Rodgers-Cromartie announced on Instagram that he has decided to retire from football.
The timing of the decision is surprising, but DRC is 32 and the 1-6 Raiders are going nowhere. It took the veteran quite a while to find work last offseason, so perhaps he understands that his best days are officially behind him.
Rodgers-Cromartie was in his 11th NFL season. The former first-round pick recorded 30 interceptions and made two Pro Bowls in his career. He’s actually the second veteran defensive back to retire in the middle of the season this year, though his exit was not nearly as dramatic as the last guy’s.
