Donte Whitner lands one-year deal with Redskins
The Hitner Train has just pulled into the District of Columbia metropolitan.
As first reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network on Wednesday, the Washington Redskins are signing safety Donte Whitner to a one-year deal. Redskins head coach Jay Gruden confirmed the deal shortly thereafter.
Whitner, the three-time Pro Bowler, was waived by his hometown Cleveland Browns last April and seemed somewhat irked by the release. He recorded 81 tackles and 1.5 sacks for them in 14 appearances in 2015.
The 31-year-old will join an up-and-coming Washington secondary that was bolstered over the offseason by the signing of ex-Carolina Panther Josh Norman. Whitner and his strong onomastic tradition should help give the crew another boost.
