Eric Weddle fined by Chargers for watching daughter perform at halftime

Eric Weddle Chargers

Eric Weddle has spent his entire nine-year career with the Chargers, but it seems like 2015 could be the defensive back’s last in San Diego — and not because the team is likely relocating to Los Angeles.

On Monday, Weddle’s agent made it clear that the 30-year-old’s relationship with the Chargers is beyond repair. Why? For starters, the team fined Weddle last weekend for watching his daughter perform during the halftime show.

Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune notes that the Chargers informed Weddle last Tuesday he had been fined $10,000 for watching his daughter’s dance ceremony without permission. San Diego had a 23-0 lead over the Miami Dolphins at the time. Acee said that Weddle was “stunned” and furious.”

But that’s not all. According to Weddle’s agents, the three-time Pro Bowler has been placed on injured reserve against his wishes and told there is not enough room on the plane for him to make the trip to Denver with the team this weekend.

Talk about a situation turning ugly in a hurry. Weddle should have told the Chargers he wanted to watch his daughter, but you would think a tenured veteran would get the benefit of the doubt. The last guy we saw accuse his team of giving him a false IR designation was a major headache, and all indications are that Weddle is not.

Needless to say, Weddle will be hitting the free agent market this offseason.
