SEC Network announcer Dave Neal made quite the blunder calling a missed field goal during Saturday’s game between the Tennessee Volunteers and Mississippi State Bulldogs at Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville, Ms.
Mississippi State kicker Kyle Ferrie lined up to attempt a 42-yard field goal in the third quarter of the game, but missed wide right by some distance. Neal somehow did not see that. He confidently called the kick good, and even praised Ferrie’s leg while doing so.
"And this kick is good."

Uh, not quite. 🏈🎙️ #CFB pic.twitter.com/EwDYdfHFSw
In fairness to Neal, he was somehow not the only one fooled by the errant kick. The home stadium staff actually set off the celebratory fireworks after the miss, too.
Kyle Ferrie's 42-yard kick is NO GOOD. Tennessee's defense comes up strong to push the Bulldogs out of field goal range.

Fireworks were launched for the miss as well.
For the stadium crew, it could have been worse. At least they did not set off the fireworks after a miss on a potential game-winner, as happened at a different game once.
As for Neal, this was hardly his finest moment, especially since it took him so long to realize that the kick was no good. Everybody has their rough moments, but that one was particularly bad.
