One month ago, the Atlanta Falcons acquired defensive tackle Gervon Dexter in a trade with the Chicago Bears.
On Wednesday, Atlanta showed it paid off with a massive four-year, $78 million extension, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Falcons traded cornerback Clark Phillips III and a fifth-round draft pick to the Bears in exchange for Dexter on August 30. So far, the 24-year-old has been electric for Atlanta.
He has two solo tackles, 0.5 sack and a PD in three games, and Dexter is 8th in the NFL with a 20.5% QB pressure rate among players with at least 50 pass-rush snaps.
Dexter, who played for the Florida Gators, was selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Falcons’ new GM, Ian Cunningham, so there is a big connection there that helped things work out early on.
Atlanta is off to a 1-2 start with back-to-back losses to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Panthers. However, the Falcons defeated the Green Bay Packers, 35-14, with Michael Penix Jr. making his first start at QB since suffering a torn ACL last season.
