Famous actor wants to play Bill Belichick in movie about Tom Brady
New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is largely an inimitable figure, but one famous actor sounds up for the challenge of portraying Belichick on the big screen.
Mark Wahlberg spoke this week with Mark Malkin of Variety and reacted to Tom Brady’s retirement this week after 22 years in the NFL. As part of the conversation, Wahlberg was already looking ahead to a potential biopic about Brady and said that he would like to be involved in it.
“I could play his uncle,” said Wahlberg. “I would love to play Bill Belichick.”
Playing the head coach of the Patriots would probably be right in Wahlberg’s wheelhouse. He is a Boston native and plays Bostoners so often (in films like “The Departed,” “The Fighter,” and “Patriots Day”) that he has become a meme of sorts. But it may be a whole different challenge to play Belichick, specifically in nailing his demeanor and his infamous media relationship.
That said though, Wahlberg portraying Belichick would not be the craziest thing that Hollywood has done, especially after a surprising actor played another NFL head coach a few months ago.
