Sean McVay had some fans concerned over comments he made during a recent episode of “60 Minutes.”
The Los Angeles Rams coach was interviewed for the CBS program in late July, just days into training camp. McVay admitted his mind was not fully present for the sit-down while speaking to journalist Jon Wertheim.
McVay called himself “tormented” because the Rams’ latest practice did not go as well as he had hoped. He also spoke candidly about how his self-worth has become tied to wins and losses on the football field, which leads to some down moments when his team doesn’t perform.
“I’m having one right now,” McVay told Werheim. “I mean, that’s just the truth. I feel bad that you guys are doing this incredible story and you know, and I’m not in a good place right now. I’m not happy with how practice went.”

Several fans expressed concern for McVay, with some believing his mental state was not in a great place based on his comments.
If the Rams have a disappointing season this year, I genuinely think this dude retires. His mental health is very clearly tenuous. https://t.co/LmKtPN3pvt

You know Sean McVay looks kind of alright until he opens his mouth and you hear him speak 😵💫 https://t.co/y1bpwygmFU

McVay also talked about nearly leaving the Rams for a year to take a broadcasting job, which he characterized as “quitting” on the team rather than taking a break. McVay revealed that his wife, Veronika, talked him out of it.
With the Rams seen as preseason Super Bowl favorites, the pressure on McVay’s team to perform is as high as ever. The Rams’ lackluster season opener against the San Francisco 49ers probably didn’t help McVay sleep more soundly heading into Week 2.
