Andy Dalton may not be considered one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL, but wide receivers who want to get paid should consider themselves lucky if they wind up with the Cincinnati Bengals. That’s how one of Dalton’s former teammates sees it, at least.
Tyler Boyd had a breakout season with the Bengals last season, and they rewarded him on Tuesday with a four-year, $43 million extension. Former Cincinnati wide receiver and Dalton teammate Andrew Hawkins feels that news should serve as a reminder that Dalton is underrated.
Say what you want about Andy Dalton, but he’s helped his pass catchers sign over $150Ms in new contract $$$$ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ https://t.co/WAzblBvFTR

AJ Green is currently entering the final season of a four-year, $60 million extension he signed with the Bengals back in 2015, and he has made it clear he isn’t looking to go anywhere else. He has spent his entire career playing with Dalton and cemented himself as one of the best wide receivers in football.
Of course, you could make the argument that the Bengals are simply very good at drafting and developing wide receivers. That said, every quarterback plays some role in the development of the receivers he throws to. Dalton may not win you a playoff game, but perhaps Hawkins is right that he helps pass-catchers get paid.
