Giants GM hints team could be moving on from Eli Manning
The New York Giants have a big decision to make at the quarterback position this offseason, and it sounds like a significant change could be coming based on what their general manager is saying.
While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Giants GM Dave Gettleman said he recently sat down with Eli Manning for a “no holds barred” conversation about the future. It seems like that conversation had to do with the team potentially going in another direction.
Dave Gettleman says he and Eli Manning had a conversation – "extensive, no holds barred" on Monday.
"We will do what's in the best interest of the New York Giants."
No details.

Is Dave Gettleman committed to Eli Manning for 2019?
He doesn't say, but leaves door open for all possibilities.
"I'm committed to making the best decision in the interest of the Giants. We’re in the evaluation process. I know you want answers now."
Wants to "build best team"

If you compare that to what Gettleman said about Manning when he first took over as GM last year, it’s easy to get the sense that Manning may have played his last snap in New York.
Manning could end up starting for the Giants in Week 1 next season if they draft a quarterback and don’t want to rush the rookie into action, but it became obvious this season that his skills have diminished. Eli will turn 38 on Thursday, and there were many times in 2018 where it looked like he is no longer capable of accurately delivering passes downfield.
When Manning was asked about his future heading into the final game of the regular season, he seemed to understand there’s a good chance he won’t be back with the Giants in 2019.
