Giants reportedly unlikely to use franchise tag on Landon Collins
On a day when many leading NFL players are being hit with the franchise tag by their current teams, it looks like one potential free agent won’t have that happen to him.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the New York Giants are unlikely to place the franchise tag on safety Landon Collins. The team simply views the tag number of $11.15 million as too high at the moment.
The #Giants are viewed as unlikely to franchise tag safety Landon Collins, sources tell @KimJonesSports and me. They love the player but view the tag number as too high. If this holds, he’s expected to be free.

It seems as though Collins somewhat saw this coming, and he’ll now be able to hit the open market and see what he’s worth. The 25-year-old had 96 tackles in 12 games for the Giants last season.
