Interesting detail emerges about Aaron Rodgers’ contract with Steelers

Aaron Rodgers has finally committed to the Pittsburgh Steelers, but it does not appear that the two sides are looking any further than the 2025 season.

Rodgers has informed the Steelers that he will fly to Pittsburgh and sign with them before the start of mandatory minicamp, which is on Tuesday. While the exact terms of the contract have not been disclosed, we know that it is a short-term agreement.

According to NFL Media, Rodgers will sign a one-year deal with the Steelers.

Rodgers is 41, so it is hardly a shock that he is reportedly signing a one-year deal. There was, however, a report earlier this offseason that the former NFL MVP wanted to play two more seasons.

If Rodgers insisted on a two-year deal, the Steelers probably would have given it to him. They have waited this long and essentially operated all offseason as if signing him was inevitable. It is highly unlikely that they would have risked having Rodgers walk away over an additional year on the contract.

Assuming Rodgers does sign a one-year deal, that could be a strong indicator that he only wants to play one more season. He has said previously that the money is not important to him, despite some reports suggesting otherwise.

The Steelers still have Mason Rudolph on their roster and drafted Will Howard in the sixth round. If Rodgers has a good year and Pittsburgh contends for a playoff spot, the two sides may decide they want to continue their partnership into 2026. For now, it seems like their focus is solely on the upcoming year.
