Jacksonville Jaguars general manager James Gladstone may have tipped his hand at how he intends his team to use Travis Hunter.
The Jaguars swung for the fences Thursday with a blockbuster trade to acquire the second overall pick from the Cleveland Browns. Jacksonville gave up a huge trade package for the chance to select Hunter.
While speaking to reporters after the draft, Gladstone made a bold statement about why the Jaguars aggressively pursued the Colorado star.
“There are players who have the capacity to alter a game,” said Gladstone. “There are players who have the capacity to alter the trajectory of a team. There are very few players who have the capacity to alter the trajectory of the sport itself.”
What makes Hunter a transcendent prospect is his potential to play both cornerback and wide receiver at an elite level. Hunter has seriously expressed his intention to play both positions in the NFL. Based on Gladstone’s comments, the Jaguars plan to grant Hunter’s wish.
In his final season at Colorado, Hunter caught 96 passes for 1,258 yards with 15 touchdowns while also serving as a lockdown cornerback.
Jaguars fans aren’t the only ones excited about the team landing Hunter. Starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence sounded pretty ecstatic about the Hunter trade as well.
