Jalen Ramsey calls for ref to be fired, says he might be related to DeAndre Hopkins
Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey committed a crucial pass interference penalty late in his team’s loss to the Houston Texans Sunday, and the rookie wants the official who made the call to lose his job.
Ramsey was called for pass interference on DeAndre Hopkins in the fourth quarter, and the Texans eventually scored a touchdown on the drive. He felt the flag was thrown on the wrong player.
“All I know is I started that drive with my mouthpiece on my helmet, I ended that drive and my mouthpiece was on their sideline,” Ramsey said, per Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. “I’m not sure how that happens without getting called hands to the face but it did.”
Ramsey, who is all but certain to draw a hefty fine from the NFL, then took it a step further by calling out the specific official (line judge Dale Shaw) and speculating that he might be related to Hopkins.
“Specifically I want to call out, I don’t know his name, I don’t really care for it, field judge No. 104, by far the worst official in the NFL,” he added. “He needs to be fired 100 percent, terrible, terrible, terrible.
“[Shaw] may be a kin to Hopkins or something, I don’t know. He’s just a homer, I feel like the whole officiating crew they were homers.”
In just his first NFL season, Ramsey has proven that he certainly is not shy. The former Florida State star already engaged in a war of words with one of the NFL’s most notorious trash talkers earlier in the year. He needs to learn to keep better control of his emotions.
