Report: Jalen Ramsey has biggest issues with Tom Coughlin
Jalen Ramsey’s public confrontation with Doug Marrone on the sidelines of a Jacksonville Jaguars loss to the Houston Texans in Week 2 of the NFL season was widely believed to be the impetus to the cornerback’s trade request. What we are learning now is that Ramsey’s bigger complaints have to do with Tom Coughlin.
The confrontation between Ramsey and Marrone occurred in the first half of the team’s 13-12 loss to the Texans. On Thursday, the AP’s Mark Long wrote an article about Jaguars owner Shad Khan saying publicly that he supports Ramsey and does not want to trade the cornerback.
In his article, Long said Ramsey also had an exchange with Coughlin after the Texans loss. Long said Ramsey’s fractured relationship with Jacksonville’s front office is specific to Coughlin.
Sure enough, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported something similar on September 20. Rapoport said “this is not about Marrone. It is about management: Tom Coughlin and others.”

Coughlin has served as Executive VP of Football Operations for the Jags since 2017. He coached the Jags from 1995-2002 before moving to the Giants, whom he coached from 2004-2015. He won two Super Bowls but was notoriously difficult to get along with.
Coughlin has backed Ramsey in the past, but he also has called out other Jags players for selfish behavior.
