Jason Garrett gets penalty for spiking challenge flag in front of referee Scott Edwards

Jason Garrett Scott Edwards

Jason Garrett was called for unsportsmanlike conduct after spiking a challenge flag in front of referee Scott Edwards during Sunday’s Dallas Cowboys-Green Bay Packers game.

The Cowboys had a first-and-10 situation late in the third quarter from their 30 and Dak Prescott floated a pass down the left sideline to Amari Cooper. Cooper definitely got one foot in, but there was a question about whether he got the second in. The call on the field was that Cooper was out of bounds.

Garrett challenged the call and spiked his flag in front of Edwards, which led to an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

Rather than have a 27-yard gain, the Cowboys only moved up 12 yards to the 42 because of the 15-yard penalty.

FOX also showed video of Edwards, on a previous play, telling Garrett to throw a challenge flag, so maybe Garrett felt annoyed about having to do so once again.

The Cowboys coach’s anger was understandable; the referees missed a tough call and it cost Garrett a challenge, and then they penalized him for his reaction to the missed call.
