Frustrated Dallas Cowboys fans are not happy with owner Jerry Jones regarding his latest comments about NFL coaching salaries.
In an appearance on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday, Jones took issue with the idea that paying coaches high salaries has any correlation with winning. The Cowboys owner was rather confrontational in defending his habit of not investing heavily in top coaches, particularly recently.
“There is zero correlation between how much you pay a coach or how many coaches you have as to winning. There is no correlation. And that’s a random sample of years and all 32 teams involved. So put that in your hopper and smoke it,” Jones said.
Naturally, Cowboys fans were incensed, both at what they saw as Jones’ ignorance and the fact that this provided a strong hint that the Cowboys won’t be pursuing a high-profile coach anytime soon.
I’m sure this will attract all of the top coaching candidates to the Cowboys this offseason!

Just say you’re cheap and you don’t wanna give anyone else credit

The Cowboys lost previous coach Mike McCarthy in part because they were unwilling to pay him top dollar. He was replaced by the largely affordable Brian Schottenheimer, who the Cowboys faced no competition for.
Cowboys fans are used to outrageous statements from Jones, but this will just make them mad. It certainly adds fuel to the fire for those who think the Cowboys owner does not want a coach he will have to cede control to.
