The beef between Jay Gruden and Robert Griffin III continued over social media on Thursday and resulted in a knockout punch from the former Washington coach.
On Monday, while watching Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts get pummeled, Gruden shared a post on X where he commented on the lack of protection for the quarterback. Griffin responded, and then the two continued to trade shots on the app.
On Thursday, Griffin called out Gruden in a video the former quarterback posted on social media. Griffin was looking to reignite the beef and got a fresh blow in response.
In a since-deleted post, Gruden responded to Griffin.
“You weren’t good enough,” Gruden wrote in response to Griffin. “Kirk was better. Cleveland didn’t want you. Baltimore did (sic) either. Quit blaming me.”
Gruden was referencing Kirk Cousins, who supplanted Griffin as the starter in Washington. Cousins was better than Griffin then and remains a strong NFL quarterback, while RG3 has long been out of the league — confirmation that Gruden’s staff made the correct call.
Gruden then put Griffin in a body bag with a finishing blow, telling the former quarterback to “go race a pigeon.”
Griffin entered thinking he would win that social media fight easily. Instead he got knocked out.
Too bad Gruden deleted his post.
