Jerod Mayo makes big promise about Patriots’ rebuild
New England Patriots coach Jerod Mayo is making some aggressive pledges regarding the team’s upcoming offseason.
In an appearance on WEEI on Monday, Mayo was asked if he has been given assurances by owner Robert Kraft that the team is prepared to spend money to bring in talent this offseason. Mayo’s answer was a strong yes, to say the least.
"We're bringing in talent, 1,000%. We have a lot of cap space and cash. We're ready to burn some cash!" — Jerod Mayo, to @TheGregHillShow, when asked if he's been given assurances by Robert Kraft that the team will spend

“We’re bringing in talent, 1,000 percent. We have a lot of cap space and cash. We’re ready to burn some cash,” Mayo said.
This should be music to Patriots’ fans ears as long as the team spends wisely. NFL salary cap website Over The Cap projects the Patriots to have over $65 million in cap space to use, so one would expect them to be one of the more aggressive teams in free agency in order to accelerate their rebuild.
One big question is what the Patriots will do at the quarterback position. That could be solved with the third pick of the NFL Draft, or the team may make a surprising decision for 2024.
