Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy’s job status became a hot topic after his team’s brutal loss Sunday against the Detroit Lions. But Jerry Jones made sure to cool off any talk of McCarthy being on the hot seat.

The Cowboys were demolished by the Lions 47-9 in their Week 6 clash at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Jones, who was celebrating his 82nd birthday at the game, looked absolutely disgusted by his Cowboys’ performance.

Jones spoke to reporters after the loss, which was the team’s third at home this season. When asked about a potential coaching change, Jones made it clear that he was sticking with McCarthy.

“I haven’t even considered that,” Jones said. “I’m not considering that, so you’re clear.”

While Jones expressed his support for McCarthy on Sunday, the veteran coach’s contract situation with the Cowboys doesn’t exactly bode well for his long-term job security. McCarthy, who is in the final year of a five-year contract he signed in 2020, was was not offered an extension in the offseason.

McCarthy has led Dallas to three straight 12-5 finishes but has been unable to get his team past the Divisional Round.

It didn’t help McCarthy that his side was nearly blinded by the sun during one of the Cowboys’ drives late in the contest.
