Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones does not appear to be doing himself any favors in contract negotiations with star edge rusher Micah Parsons.
Jones made a disrespectful comment about Parsons’ agent David Mulugheta on Tuesday, prompting a response from Parsons. Jones told reporters that he was negotiating directly with Parsons, and underlined that by adding that he didn’t even know Mulugheta’s name.
Jerry Jones with blatant disrespect to Micah Parsons agent David Mulugheta: The agent is not a concern here … I don’t know his name.”

Mulugheta is one best and most respected agents in the NFL.
Parsons is wise to have hired Mulugheta.

Unfortunately for Jones, Mulugheta is one of the most prominent agents in the NFL. According to Forbes, he has 86 clients, including the likes of Deshaun Watson, Jalen Ramsey, and Budda Baker.
Parsons did not react well to Jones’ comments. In a post on X, he made clear that any contract negotiations will involve Mulugheta, and that he hired the agent for a reason.
“Like anyone with good sense I hired experts for a reason,” Parsons wrote. “There is no one I trust more when it comes to negotiating contracts than David! There will be no backdoors in this contract negotiation.”
Facts!! David is the best and I will not be doing any deal without @DavidMulugheta involved! Like anyone with good sense I hired experts for a reason. There is no one I trust more when it comes to negotiating contracts than David! There will be no backdoors in this contract… https://t.co/nxKNSIXLvt

This is unlikely to sink any new Parsons contract, but it is a needless complication. It also isn’t the first time Jones has hurt his own cause in contract talks with his public comments.
Parsons has one year left on his rookie deal and is seeking a massive long-term contract. Jones has suggested that the Cowboys want to take care of Parsons, but that there is no rush to get a deal done.
Parsons has emerged as one of the best pass rushers in the NFL since Dallas drafted him in 2021. The 25-year-old has collected 52.5 sacks through his first 63 NFL games, including 12 in 13 games in 2024.
