Jets surprisingly cut third-round pick Jachai Polite

NFL teams going through a regime change typically have their front office staff set up prior to the draft so that the new personnel gets to pick the players they want. The New York Jets went about things in reverse order, and that decision seems to have cost them one of their somewhat high draft picks from this year.

The Jets on Saturday surprisingly cut third-round pick Jachai Polite just four months after drafting him.

The pass-rusher was selected by former GM Mike Maccagnan, who was fired in May weeks after the draft. The Jets later hired Joe Douglas to take over as GM in June.

The team’s pick of Polite surprised some. Despite Polite’s obvious upside, he had a terrible NFL Combine and received bad reviews from numerous teams. Perhaps Douglas has one of the more negative assessments of Polite and opted against carrying him on the roster.

Polite didn’t have a great preseason, and it doesn’t speak positively of him that he’s been cut already. It makes the Jets look even worse that they have already cut a player they spent a fairly high draft pick on.
